1. Submit to all the major Search Engines and the major directories- Search Engines and Directories are two different kinds of beasts. You need to submit ur site to only the major Search engines while you should submit to as many directories as possible.
2. Bookmark your site to all the major Social Networks (Facebook Twitter etc) and add a bookmarking icon on ur site so that others can too.
3. Join Link Exchanges and Top Sites lists
4. Exchange Links with other similar sites.
5. Get backlinks from ANY site.
6. Make sure u have good original quality content on ur site, so that visitors will wanna keep coming back.
7. Join popular forums on the internet and plug your site whenever possible. Also add a link to ur site in the signature. (Go to http://www.big-boards.com/ to find the largest Forums on the net and join the ones that are most similar in content with yours.)
8. Join a webmaster forums and meet other like minded webmasters willing to critique ur site, help with link building etc.
9. Run a competition on ur site or offer a free service.
10. Join popular chat sites and actively promote ur site.
